Exceptional Service for Ordinary Folk

The Ozark Highlands Trail Association is the organization responsible for building much of the Ozark Highlands Trail, and continues to maintain the trail on US Forest Service property and Buffalo National River property. Dozens of volunteer maintainers adopt a section of trail and prune back vegetation twice a year. When trees block the trail, tread needs to be re-worked or a section of trail re-routed, a maintenance team will be dispatched to carry out the work. Maintenance work is only available to active members of the OHTA. Others may volunteer by signing up for a one-day membership free of charge.

OHTA members also guide day hikes and overnight backpacking trips on the OHT and other trails, that are open to the general public. See the events page for upcoming hikes or maintenance outings.

We currently have two local chapters: the Boston Mountain Chapter is based out of Washington County in Northwest Arkansas; and the Eastern Chapter, which serves the Harrison/Mountain Home area.

The Boston Mountain Chapter meets the second Sunday of every month from September to May at the Washington County Cooperative Extension office, 2536 McConnell, Fayetteville, Arkansas at 6:00 pm. A potluck supper is held and a speaker will make a presentation on a recent hike or the latest and greatest gear for outdoor activities. These meetings are open to the general public.

The Eastern Chapter does not hold regular monthly meetings. Rather, they have joint outings/meetings periodically. Check the events calendar for their next meeting. Like the Boston Mountain Chapter, these meetings are open to the general public.

OHTA is a recognized 501(c)(3) organization and your donations are tax deductible. We are governed by a 9 member board of directors, each serving a 3-year term. Elections are held every spring in May. Each Chapter elects a representative to serve on the board, and the remaining 7 members are elected by the membership at large.
